I was in Tanana this week and it was nice to be back. I'm not sure why, but there's a decidedly different feel in town this year. It doesn't feel as sad.
Once above the fog when leaving Fairbanks, I had a great view of the Alaska Range.
I even saw Denali in the distance.
One benefit of the shorter days is that I'm more apt to see the 9:30 sunrise.
The Yukon has a lot of ice but isn't quite frozen over.
It wasn't too cold this trip, only -8. Of course, bunny boots next to a locker is a good reminder of how cold -8 actually is.
Main street in Tanana.
I stayed at the superintendent's house which sits on the river. The clear, sunny days made the front porch an inviting place to sit. Then I remembered it had only warmed up to -2.
