The weather in Adak this past week was particularly nice -- only one day of rain.

Green Salad, Vodka, and a Missing Breast

On the flight home from Adak this week I was upgraded to first class.There were 15 people on the jet, total. Ten of us were in first class. The flight attendant asked me if I'd like to have dinner -- an herb chicken breast with a green salad. That'd be lovely, I said. Oh, and a vodka and sprite zero cocktail too, please!

Lost

I've said before that Adak is a black hole of time, and this trip was no exception. I typically fly to Adak on Sunday and return on Thursday. Those are the only two days the plane goes to Adak.

Adak Revisited

Further west than Hawaii and as far south as Vancouver British Columbia. Yet, at times Adak feels like a parallel universe. It's a place where you walk your dogs by having them run behind the truck for a few blocks, you park on the front lawn,

Adak Island

Two weeks ago I spent four days in the town of Adak on Adak Island. The island is one of the more easterly islands in the Aleutian Chain. At one time there was a naval base operating here and a population of 6000 people. Now there's a lot of abandoned buildings and a population of 109.
